Topeka Gets Active At Walk with a Doc

On Saturday, July 18, community members laced up their shoes and headed to Washburn University's Lee Arena for the latest Walk with a Provider, hosted by Stormont Vail Health. The free, one-mile walk paired an easy morning stroll with a conversation from Elizabeth Rincon, LMSW, on why Spanish-speaking healthcare providers matter and how clear communication helps patients feel more comfortable, informed, and supported when seeking care.

That's the appeal of Walk with a Doc - no registration, no cost, and no pressure to keep a certain pace. Walkers of every fitness level showed up ready to move, ask questions, and pick up a little health education along the way, proving that a good walk and a good conversation go hand in hand.

Getting people outside and moving is exactly what our Active Environment Impact Team works toward - building a Shawnee County where physical activity is easy to find and easy to join. Events like this one show how something as simple as a walk in the park can also open the door to a conversation that makes healthcare more accessible for our neighbors.

Join Walk With A Doc outside Lee Arena on Washburn University Campus every third Saturday of the month at 9AM! Check our events calendar for more.
